King's Speech wins big at SAG and DGA awards

Well no surprises here like last year where awards were expected to be divided between "Hurt locker" and "Avatar" with some wins on "Inglourious Basterds". At the 2011 Screen Actors Guild awards, "The king's speech" took the most important award of the night, "Outstanding performance by a cast" as well as Best actor for Colin Firth. Natalie Portman took the award for best actress for the

Dark Knight rises start shooting on May 2011

"The dark knight rises" starts shooting on May according to the film's screenwriter, David S.Goyer. I am very excited for this one and i am looking forward to see which villains they will finally include after revealing that Bane is one of the bat's main adversaries. Bane will be played by "Inception"s Tom Hardy and was the one who broke the bat as he smashed the dark knight's spine! Also Anne

New Scream 4 poster

This is the latest "Scream 4" poster, unveiled today. What do you guys think? The original team behind the two awesome is back and hopefully they won't make this one to suck. Any thoughts?

It went nut...awesome weekend!

Back from the state of corn - Iowa! I consider myself fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the seven delegates representing St. Cloud State for the 21st University of Northern Iowa (UNI) RA Conference. It is a conference designated for resident/community advisors as well as professional staff. The conference ran from Friday to Sunday.

So, since I knew I will be away for the weekend, I planned to complete all my due-soon assignments before Thursday. Let me be frank, I went hair-wired! It was not easy at all trying to write 3 chronicle stories, 1 opinion-editorial, 1 scholarship essay, 1 research proposal, and several short essay homework all in 2 days. On top of that were the preparation for my web development position interview and the presentation slides for the case study competition in UNI conference.

I went from boom to BOOOM. Yet I really want to thank God for He made everything possible and things fall right into place for me. The persons that I am supposed to interview for the stories happened to set up information booth and the student union, and the film that I am supposed to watch for a class was available at the library. The idea for opinion came right when I was using the computer while eating at Garvey...things just happen at the right time and I had enough time to prepare myself for the conference.

It was the first time I am attending a large scale conference like this. UNI is a great place. The campus is larger than ours and the food - no, not Sodexo - was definitely whole lot better. This conference opened my eyes to other RA/CAs from the Midwest region of United States (Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, South and North Dakota). Through the workshops I have learned new skills and knowledge about leadership at residence hall that I can apply in the semester. I really enjoyed the sessions and fellowships with the delegates.

Besides, Anil, Cora, Mariana and myself participated at the Case Study Competition. The judges must have love international students. Anil and I emerged as the top 3 award winners for our presentation and I consider that a recognition for our problem solving skills! At least I had something to bring home and also upheld the school name amongst all 89 participants in the competition. Go Husky!

I daresay this was a good experience, and we had also fostered better bonds between the delegates from St. Cloud State. A trip like this helped us to understand one another better. If I am around next year, I will definitely sign up for this conference again.

And so this was the madly weekend I had. I really needed more rest for the coming week...but things don't seem to stop overwhelming me! I foresee another busy/killer week. See you folks at next entry!

Cheerios.

New Zodiac sign? The odds are that your no longer what you use to be. #Fact

                                          OLD

NEW

According to Huffintonpost.com, it is a new occurrence taking place in the zodiac world as we know it. Could you have been a totally different sun sign other than what you’ve thought all along? Well, according to Astronomer Parke Kunkle there’s a 13th sign in the zodiac. Here’s what was posted on the site to further explain:
Astronomer Parke Kunkle says that due to changes in the Earth's alignment the dates of many zodiac signs have changed, according to NBC. In addition, there may be a 13th Zodiac sign: Ophiuchus.
Kunkle says that as the Earth and Sun slowly move the signs gradually change, as expected.
The change didn't happen overnight either. The 12 signs were designated to different periods of the year almost 3,000 years ago, when astrology began, and since then the Earth's position in relation to the sun has changed.

The New Dates:
Capricorn: Jan. 20 - Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 - March 11
Pisces: March 11- April 18
Aries: April 18 - May 13
Taurus: May 13 - June 21
Gemini: June 21 - July 20
Cancer: July 20 - Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10 - Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16 - Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30 - Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23 - Nov. 29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29 - Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17 - Jan. 20
UPDATE: The Associated Press reported that Kunkle has since clarified his earlier statements, emphasizing "this is not new news," and "Astronomers have known about this since about 130 B.C."
ABC News reports popular astrologer Susan Miller called the claim of new Zodiac signs "ridiculous," adding "We've known about this for ages."
The confusion seems to be a result of Eastern vs. Western astrology. Most of us are familiar with tropical zodiac (Western), based on the seasons, which has not changed, though sidereal zodiac (Eastern), based on constellations, has different signs including a 13th. Is there a correct system? That's up for debate.

An Objective Question: Is Beyonce the most hated on female in the industry?

This may sound a bit presumptuous to some, but to many it would be a realistic truth. So many "it" girls have had their share of "hate” in our pop culture. Certainly Beyonce would not be the first to come along, if indeed this is the case. It's definitely however, not odd to find her name in any random blog popping up when indeed the focus is on another artist. This may result in a “Stan war” where people choose sides and make cruel remarks about the others taste and lack thereof. Beyonce’s been compared to Rihanna, Janet, Britney, Jlo, Ashanti, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and even Taylor Swift.

I've seen it often and I'm sure many people surfing the net have as well on any random site you can imagine. Perhaps the development of this fixation on Beyonce stems from being compared to her own band mates in their former group Destiny’s Child. Even though their success (which place them as the biggest selling female group of all time), established the familiarity with each of them as a house hold name,  there are certainly some actions demonstrated that display questionable behavior for some for whatever reason.

One perspective on it would be that Beyonce clearly carried the group, where another would insist that she hogged the spotlight. It is very likely that Beyonce sung more on most of Destiny Child’s hits than any other member.  By the way do we honestly remember any female group where more than 1 person regularly sings lead other than Envogue? It’s been said that Beyonce as well as her father Mathew Knowles (Destiny’s Child manager) have held the other members back and therefore, not allowing anyone else to showcase their talent. What should be noted is that Kelly and Michelle have yet to find their own substantial solo success while Beyonce has on 3 different occasions.

There are other causes of the escalated resentment against Beyonce that could be a reason why she is despised by some… Many feel that she is the sole reason for the downfall of so many “extinct” artists. Ashanti, Amerie, Jlo (whose certainly on a comeback trail as of late), and Mya have struggled in their careers after having lackluster sales and fading common interest. Most of these women have released material around or at the same time as Beyonce and have gone virtually unnoticed. People have even said that there was an attempt made by Beyonce to close in on Janet’s territory and replace her. Beyonce had released an album (“Bday”) inside the same year as Janet’s (“20 Y.O.”) and that of course drew a few comparisons and started some kind of rivalry in the minds of their devoted fans.

Some very interesting tidbits are: 1) Rihanna’s not often ridiculed in this same manner for having 5 releases in the 5 years that she’s been out (since 2005) and have seen way more success than all of the girls mentioned that were supposedly destroyed by Beyonce in recent years. She’s also released music in the same year Janet Jackson has as well. She’s not credited for ending anyone’s career. 2) The demise of Ashanti’s career may have something to do with her label home that fell apart after flooded allegations of fraud and drug money swarming around them. 3) Amerie parted ways with longtime producer Rich Harrison (who wrote her biggest hit “1Thing”) due to what some people believe are personal reasons (the two were rumored to be romantically involved). She hasn’t found any parallel success since. Yet, Beyonce is still seen (by many) as the biggest problem these ladies had on their hands. I guess, recounting the past has a lot to do with how someone views it. Speaking of recounting the past, this brings me to my next point.

Wikipedia may not be a primary source for stats and information relating to various artist for some folks, however most people may agree that their ballpark figures on the site are generally accurate for most artists.  One important factor concerning Wikipedia is that it’s designed to state facts by the PUBLIC that list a reference for proof if anything is supplied to any artists’ record. I frequently visit the site and plug in different names from Britney to Lady Gaga. I’ve honestly never seen anything taken away from them after these artist are credited for something (matter of fact, I’ve noticed that their adjustments usually are made to make their totals higher). This is not the case at all with Beyonce.

I’ve only seen paradoxical statistics that is not left untouched for more than two weeks max. Beyonce’s discography have had multiple changes applied to it and go back and forth for months on end between lower and higher sums. For example her last disc I am Sasha Fierce is certified triple platinum and it’s brought back down to double on a consistent basis(despite having a photo of the plaque floating around on the web). Matter of fact as of 1/19/11, she’s currently listed as selling 2.4millin in the states (despite inside where the reading of her history have text that acknowledge her sales to have been 2.8 as of January of 2010). It was listed on 2 occassions as having sales of 3 million in the last few months. Her worldwide stats aren’t stable either. It is often lodged between 6 -7 million, when it was near 7 million for most of 2010 (again you will find this info in the text that is provided by Wikipedia).

So, this is not only baffling, but contradictory as well. Lady Gaga's tweet to her followers on Twitter about her album sales for "The Fame" was honored and listed as a source at one time to grant her a higher grand total. There were some complaints made about that, but it was approved. Again, I’m using Wikipedia in this case to dwell on the fact that it is a site where the public make contributions to what is listed. So, this question I raised isn't asked in any attempt to display my own unwavering "standom", but in the name of objectivity. I want to dissect this specific case and just simply find out if some of you feel that there's any other artist you've seen get it worst. Let's just narrow this down to female artist (because I don't think anyone has come close to enduring what MJ had to).

What is your take on it?
Weigh in…

Would you still support your favorite artist if you found out they were gay?

There’s plenty of speculation in the media and on the web about the sexuality of today’s most popular entertainers. It’s commonly reported that someone’s been exposed and that these artist are leading double lives. It makes you wonder what would be the outcome if a popular recording artist “came out “or if it was revealed to the world that indeed that particular person was gay. Would he/she lose the following and everything they’ve invested in building their careers or would today’s society simply not care? It’s 2011 and there are so many “gay icons” that you have to ask yourself is it still taboo? People are not in hiding as they once were and it’s more than likely that you have a gay friend, uncle, cousin, neighbor, son or daughter   in your surroundings that’s a part of your everyday life. Still realistically image is everything in the music world. These stars must attract fans and it’s obvious that people keeping these secrets are afraid of it hurting their careers. Does it matter to you?

Everybody needs a Marley

Everybody needs a Marley. If you have not watched “Marley & Me” (2008), please do so before continuing with this piece.

For all of us who have watched the movie, we know how an adorable puppy can grow up to be “the world worst dog.”

But it is not about the evil in the dog. There are many values that we can acquire from Marley himself when it comes to life.

Here is a puppy that attracts almost everybody’s attention when they first saw him. He is white, he is cute, and he is so huggable. However, as soon as time flies, the adorable puppy grew up to be a troublemaker, and eventually turn out to be a burden in the house.

I like the fact that life is not always perfect. Yet, most of the time it is “too perfect.”

Very often we tend to fall into the notion of smooth sailing journeys with our daily routine. As students, we get up in the morning guessing what day it was, we then move along with the flow as the day goes, and finally we lay back onto the same bed figuring what we should do tomorrow – there is not much of excitement that one could really look forward to.

Marley spices things up when life is dull. He is like that sweet cotton candy everyone loves for their childhood. If it doesn’t come in form of a puppy, Marley is represented by the friends around us.

A friend like Marley listens to your vents. A friend like Marley will never say, “OK, I have had enough of your rants.”

Be that Marley into someone else’s life. As Homo sapiens we literally need one another in order to survive. So, do not wait for others to be a caring friend. Instead, be that Marley that could make a change in one’s life.

And then you meet that significant someone in your life. A song of “happily ever after” fills up your entire mind.

At this time you will probably think that Marley is a stumbling stone to your honeysweet life. Believe me, most of us do the same to our friends when we get into a romantic relationship. We try to get rid of the Marley’s that are “distracting” to the development of our love life.

Poor Marley, having been a faithful friend for years and all he gets is an “excuse me.”

Friends, be mindful of your attitudes towards your good companions even when you may not need them. Who knows they may be the one who will standby you when your loved ones don’t.

Finally, Marley has taught us the reality of life.

No one escapes from death. We all will have to leave this planet one day. Nonetheless, what really matters is if we have left our footprints behind. Have we planted the legacy for the future generation?

The life of Marley changed every soul in the house. Are we able to do the same? We need the Marley in us – to be an influencer for our loved ones. Leave no regrets to the day you lay on your sick bed because you know you have done your best being there for the one you cared.

Think about it, we all need a Marley in our lives.

everybody needs a marley, marley and me, marley

Will Smith's "Annie" reamke with daughter- FAIL 2

Honestly, is there anybody in this miserable world that wants to see an adaptation of the broadway musical entitled "Annie" with Willow Smith starring and Jay-Z producing? The answer is no. For the following reasons:
a) Jeez man your daughter is only 10 years old! Stop milking your own daughterb) No talent is visible. She is not a female Michael Jackson.c) Her songs are just and plain bad- repeat

Thundercats reboot series first pic- FAIL

A first pic for the upcoming thudercats reboot was released earlier today. I think it looks horrible. It seems the creators tried to make it as much as kid-friendly as possible. They have these fake anime hair which i hate. If you want to take an anime approach, sure no probs, but do not try to westernised it. It just doesn't work ! Below i have posted the pic and another one from the 80's show.

Fassbender on board for "Prometheus"

Michael Fassbender has been really busy lately! After his breakout with QT's "Inglourious Basterds" he starred in "Centurion", then... Review: John Carpenter's The ward

Hey all sorry for being delayed. Watched on monday the latest flick from John Carpenter, his first film feature after a decade. The last one he shot was the critically sliced and diced "Ghost of mars" on 2002. After almost 10 years, he returned to the director's chair to deliver a promising tale of a well... haunted ward.
Now is it good? A lot of buzz and fuzz about this film was made but i am

Oscar nominations are on and ... horrible

Woa..the oscars are becoming more predictable year by year. Also the choices sometimes are inxeplicably stupid. Ok. It's time to rock so here are my thoughts:
You have nominated the entire cast almost from "The fighter". Are they really that good? You guys left other good actors/esses.. Pointless.
What about this? Nicole Kidman who hasn't been seen into a major award show/organisation for her

Razzie awards nominations for 2011

Well the inevitable happened. The Razzie awards nominations just announced their list of films that were considered the worst of the year. Surprisingly they forget to include the likes of "Skyline", "Killers", "Nightmare on elms street" and "Case 39". But i think Razzies have lost some of their "magic" touch throught the years. Nobody said Jessica Alba is the new Meryl Strip in terms of acting

BREAKING NEWS: Matrix 4 and 5 are coming!

Woa! Now that's how the week should start! Keanu Reeves while promoting his latest film, "Henry's Crime" mentioned that he met with the Watchovski brothers around christmas to discuss future installements of "The matrix" franchise.
Now this is exciting stuff! I know that people felt part 3 disappointed many (including me) but i am always interesting in the visual style of the Watchovski brothers.

awards: King's speech wins PGA's best picture

In comparison to the laughable and massive enthusiasm for "Social Network", "the king's speech" was the big winner at the Producers Guilt Awards for best film, one of the most biggest (and influential ceremonies leading to the Oscars). Yes finally. I am pretty sure right now that "The social network" won't win anything besides the ridiculous trophies that took home from the Hollywood Foreign

Legitimate Saturday

Woke up to a phone call today. This is the life of a resident advisor, you are kinda on-call 24/7. Well, not a bad start to a glorious afternoon tho' (yeaz, the call was at 1:09pm).

So this week was more than fun: Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday - had only three days for classes, CA re-application interview on Friday morning, then at night ISA organized World Dance Party at the first Atwood After Dark of the semester. Boom boom boom, there goes the third week of spring! What made it not cool was that the weather kept falling under negatives.

Feeling pretty accomplished today having spent my entire day (and evening) working on ONE assignment. It was a complete creative brief for CoverGirl Lash Blast Fusion. I moved away from my cozy island and sat in the study lounge from 2pm to 9pm - a legitimate seven (holy heaven) hours. It's done.

Yet 'am feeling kinda weird because I have been very worried about this assignment since the day it was casted on us. Coming to think of it, it's as though an unleashed prisoner - you can still feel that metal ball tied to your legs.

Oh well, it is Sunday and it should be a sabbath day. Will take time to restore. However there are still works to be finished. I have to prepare myself for another loaded week, too. UNI conference is upon us, and a presentation needs to be discussed and prepared.

Time to get rollin'. Cheers!

Review: Black Swan - A haunting masterpiece

Just returned from the screening of "Black Swan". OMG. Why nobody is making films like these more often? BW is a haunting masterpiece, a brilliant yet depressing portrayal of ego perfection. How far can an individual has to go to achieve perfection in something? In our case: ballet. Yes, we have seen a similar approach to many other films before (about football, soccer, singing, acting etc) with

What are your "All time Favorite" top 5 sitcoms?

Which album was slept on in 2010?

Have you ever listened to an album and thought to yourself that it’s destined to obtain massively huge world renowned success, just to later discover that the acclaim and the accolades you feel it deserves is unfortunate wishful thinking. What’s becomes apparent is that the end result is that the cd will be snubbed? There were a few artists in 2010 that I believe were deserving of owning that year. I narrowed it down to three for myself. Alicia Keys’ 2009 fourth quarter release titled “Elements of Freedom” did boast sales of over 1 million and managed to contain 2 songs on the disc that have entered in the top 2 spots on billboard’s R&B/Hip-hop songs chart. Though that is a great feat which has been accomplished, I think its potential is far greater than what has been reached (to no fault of her own).  The collection of songs as a whole was a great array of mood music that quietly passed by those who've missed out.
What I think might be even a bigger travesty is the disappointing performance of Ciara’s Basic Instinct, which I thought was a solid well –packaged compilation of songs that represented a fresh and  current sound that may not necessary be superior to Elements, but certainly was more infectious and even possessing more of a likeability factor. Those that discredit Ciara place blame on her for her lackadaisical approach in promoting Instinct. Perhaps, it is logical suppositions to draw a conclusion from in thinking that Ciara may have played a hand in seeing it get off to a bad start. All in all, I feel that the album is exactly where music is at in terms of the aggression, edge and swagger. It’s a cut above the rest.
Still my most treasured rough diamond is Chris Brown’s Graffiti album. Again another 2009 fall release that didn’t beat the odds in terms of matching success he is know for. I personally found this record to be quite innovative and ground breaking. There’s sometimes that record which is created and forgotten about that comes along before the birth of something that goes a step further. That would be the only description I can dubbed Brown’s latest effort. It explores so many different sounds from dance to reggae and the cohesiveness turned out to be a magnetic gumbo of didn’t music elements that spoke volumes of Brown’s musicality. His influences are present on this piece of work where it seems evident that he saturated the essence of genius musicians such as Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and even Stevie Wonder (check out Fallin’ Down) and cleverly made it modern and honest in defining himself.  What I can guarantee is that this same concept will be developed upon and it may not be obvious who will drive this thing home (then again maybe it is), but Graffiti is the blueprint now and the next deserving opportunist only has to cross the finish line with the same, but expanded substance found in it. Do you agree? What are your picks?

How much of a say should your friends have in your relationship?

Often when a person is budding into someone’s business they are greeted with unpleasant words or actions. No one likes it when someone is trying to pry into your personal life. Still people who seek the advice of a supportive friend when they’re facing difficult times with a mate may be doing more harm than any good. These friends that are advising someone they’re showing support to may not be impartial and that may not result in them finding a resolution that benefits both parties.  It’s a very complicated thing. So, why is it so common for people to talk to their friends about their relationship woes? Is it fair to your lover to share intimate details with people they don’t really have a bond with? On the other hand, what if some friends really look out for your best interest and see things that someone can’t if their blinded by love. At the end of the day most people do what they feel will help them cope with their problems. Do you think it’s healthier to embrace a friends input or steer clear from what their perception of things are when it comes to your love life?

THINK before you drink

Take this seriously, at least for the next five minutes while you read this post that in one way or another is related to you.

I am not a big fan of irresponsible drinking. I don't even like talking about it. Yet, because of what I have seen happening around me lately, I have decided to do the school a small favor by sending this message across. I hope that you can really reflect on this life-threatening matter.

Dear friends, have you ever asked yourself: how much did you drink at each social event or party? A little? A shot? A bottle?

Let's roll with the statistics. According to the Core Institute, an organization that surveys college drinking practices, 300,000 of today's college students will eventually die of alcohol related causes, including drunk-driving accidents, cirrhosis of liver, cancers, and heart disease.

Well, mates, you may think that number does not apply to you; you may say you know how much you are drinking. Now, can you recall how many shots you took the last time you when for drinking?

Many students think they can relax and hang out better if they drink more. The reality is - if you happen to stop sipping for a second and look around - people do not drink heavily so they can enjoy more. In fact, only a few (normally the same few) who get trashed at parties, lose control and made a fool out of themselves in the public. You call that relax and hang out?

On top of that, you become somebody else's burden. You think it's no one else's business how much you drink? Think again.

Your brains are not fully at your command when you are drunk, same goes to your body. If you lose your keys, you need your roommate to let you in; if you injure yourself somewhere along the way, you need somebody else to take care of you.

Studies have solid proofs that one person's drinking habit can affect an average of five other persons other than the drinker (Factsontap.org).

Worse still, if you are injured or permanently impaired, your parents and spouses are the ones who have to worry for you the most. So you still think it is no one else's business?

Let's be realistic. You drink, you puke, you get hangover, you miss classes, you don't do well - you are wasting your time here. Your parents did not send you here to drink, remember that.

We are humans, our bodies are fragile as it is. Please do not hurt yourself that way.

I do not even want to go into issues with alcohol poisoning and death. That's nasty, yet, it happens.

If you call yourself a good friend, kindly watch for your friends at social events. I cannot imagine how cruel it is to leave someone who has passed out at a corner. Do not assume that your friend is just passed out and just leave him or her aside. If it so happens, check for response. No matter how badly one is drunk, he or she should be able to respond to external stimuli.

If you find that your friend is not responsive at all, don't delay to call for help. Most alcohol-related death sprung from unattended individuals who were left behind. Watch "Haze" (available for free on Hulu.com) and see the reality for yourself.

We call St. Cloud State a party school, but are we proud of it? What are we doing in order to yield the decade-long trend?

Dear Student Government, we have talked on raising the athletes fees, and now the smoking policy; what are we doing regarding this life-threatening issue? Please don't wait till things get serious before we take actions.

Dear faculty, have you really educated this generation in terms of being responsible for their own wellness?

And dear parents, have you really cared? Are you watching closely what your children are doing with their lives?

It almost happened, but I really do not wish to see any life on this campus being taken away because we did not pay enough attention on this tangible matter.

To all of us, do think before you drink, because there are really way to many things to consider.

Review: Green Hornet- Worst film of 2011?

Where should i start with this train wreck? Here it goes. "Green Hornet" is one of these films that the moment hear it will start production with that particular creative team behind, it will end up terrible. Now let's get something straight.
