Dealing with Failure: Persistence & Perseverance

Haven't tried this before but this is the first time I am actually writing from the school cafeteria computer stand.

With the noises behind me I'm roaming through websites, updating Facebook status and looking at some pictures posted by friends. The drizzling rain definitely doesn't help making my day. It brought so much emotions and feelings; may be this is why I love and at the same time hate rainy days.

Well I've been thinking about Persistence and Perseverance.

The 2P's aren't something that we talk about everyday. They are more like a long term goal: trying to be consistent with our performance and do not give up trying even if we fall down during the process.

Let's see, what are some of the things that always fail us in life? School grades? Parental approval? Sales target? Personal goals?

We can't control how most things turn out, but we can decide for ourselves how we want to deal with the results, agree? How we face the outcome depends on our sense of perception.

Take for example: when we fail to achieve the objectives or the goals we've set for ourselves or one's organization, how should we response to it?

Give up?
Or keep pushing on?

I know, "giving up" doesn't sound glamor at all. However, that is the easiest way out, just give me your consensus on that. Many a time we tell ourselves how hard we've tried reaching the set goals and we failed, quitting seems to be the closest button to press on.

However, what happens after we quit? Does the problem get solved on its own? Do you get to escape from all the blaming and criticism? Not at all!

The problem doesn't solved; you will be remembered for a lousy job. What's the point of quitting then?

Thomas Edison failed big time before he finally succeeded in inventing the electric light bulb. I'm not saying that we all should be as great as the inventors in the past. But, at least we don't want to be remembered as the "failer."

Be persistent: Continue your effort no matter what happens.
Be persevering: Never say die.

I believe as long as be keep the momentum going, perseverance will prevail. Do not let failure hold you back. Even if you fall, fall and fall over, stand back up, and keep going.

I remember what my band instructor told us: The hard you fall, the higher you re-bounce.

If you have given up something at this point, try going back and continue working on it. Remember, "no body trips over mountains. It is the small pebbles that cause you to stumble. Pass all the pebbles in your path and you will find you have crossed the mountain (author unknown)."

So, keep pushing on.

Inspired by an act of quitting of a dear friend.
