Hats Off to You

I will officially be done with the semester by tomorrow; I just have to turn up for a class and hand in a hard copy of my answers sheet to the online test.

Is has been a "custom" at my blog to express gratitude to important people at the end of every semester. Hence, I want to take this time to honor my course professors in this semester.

These professors, I call them educators. They don't simply teach the syllabus materials, they help students like me to apply them in their fields of study. Many of them also teach the values that students should hold on to when they step out to the real world.

Derrick Silvestri
COMM 230 Video Editing
He taught me linear and non-linear editing system. He's superb knowledgeable at what he's teaching. He acts as the chief engineer of our University's TV station. I only spent half a semester with him because this was a one credit course. However, he managed to teach us almost all we needed to know about video editing in such a short period! The software that we learn is the software used by many Hollywood productions, including the popular Avatar movie.

Bill Huntzicker
COMM 241 Modern Journalism
I must say I loved him and hated him. He's one of a kind professor who drilled his students. But in the end, I realized that I am totally a new me. He's the one who put me into my career with the school papers today. He spent personal time with me to go through my story drafts before publications. He is a reason why I have written 52 published news articles in the semester. A very dedicated professor. He focused on the real-world job market requirements more than academics/grades. He made the AP Style book our Bible. And I'm very mature at using the AP copy editing now.

Bruce Hyde
TH 148 Acting for Everyone
My most favorite and admired professor of all. Strong personality. He has never discouraged his students. Yet, he was not hypocrite. He brings the best out of his students. I believe everyone loved him in the acting class. He is an actor himself, both on screen and on stage. He had a very playful side too. I remembered we played duck-duck-Grey duck in one of his classes. Knows how to loosen up his students. Nothing more I can say to praise him. Salute.

I can't believe I found his young face in Google. He played Lt. Kevin Riley in the Original Series of Star Trek: "The Conscience of the King" and "The Naked Time." Professional indeed.

Steven Wagner
POL 195 Democratic Citizenship: American Government
Chairman of the Political Science department. He's a very easy-going professor. Yet he made me sicked once, literally, while preparing for his test. He is the only professor who provide study guides for tests. I feel sorry because I have slept in his class several times. A very talkative professor too!

Gregory Kerkvliet
ENGL 191 Introduction to Rhetorical and Analytical Writing
The youngest professor among all, but the most responsible and organized professor. He made sure he does whatever he promised his students. Darn lots of writing assignments from him, totally different compared to other English professors that some of my friends had for the semester. Hard grader. However, he's always there for students who need help in editing their papers. I liked him because he points out my errors and helped improve my academic writings. I can see it for my own.

Daniel Halvorson
HURL 102 Human Relations and Race
Ha! This man is the most respectable figure amongst all my classes. He's a school principal at a local elementary school and teaches part time in the University. He always allow me to share my thoughts in class. He is open to any discussion related to race and other equality issues. He made me think, and think, about things that I was very lazy to think about - racism. I want to thank him because he helped me in finding my real identity.

After doing this "professors review," I realized that I had no female professors this semester (laugh). I really want to praise God for placing this wonderful educators in my life. He is the ultimate one who control things.

Compared to fall, this semester is more fruitful. I just can't put in words how excited I am knowing that I have accomplished so much.

Looking forward to tomorrow because I will start packing once the evening class is over. Hooray, 5 more days to leave St. Cloud and fly back to Malaysia!

Cheer, folks.
