Paranormal activity review-Is it worth it?

I just returned from the screening of “Paranormal Activity”. You all heard of it. This indie and very very cheap gem made millions of dollars worldwide. The “Blair witch project” was the most successful independent film of all time so far. Now fuck off BWP. It’s time for PA. Now despite all the hype is it worth it?Is it “the scariest movie of all time?” as critics have proclaimed? I would say in

The end has come-and it looks beautiful!

2012. It is the year that the world as we know is going to end. Well according to this movie and to the Mayan calendar. This is what you need to know before you drag urself from the bed and go and see this “movie”. Now I am calling it “movie” because simply is a m-o-v-i-e. The things that are occurring can not happen for real at all. Within all the destruction all over the world cell phones have

My First Thanksgiving

Wow, that was an experience!

I don't know where to start from because there were just too many things happened within the past 3 days! OK, I shall begin from Thursday.

Sue came to pick us at 1130am and we went straight to her house. We did not expect her extended / related families to be there too! There were so many people there. Her husband Randy, her 2 sons David and John, grandma, her nephews and nieces, and her brothers and sisters. It reminded me of a family reunion, those that the Chinese will do on CNY eve. We had great lunch, too bad the photos are taken from my phone and it can't be transferred to this computer. After the meal, we played a board game called "Sequence" and then ping pong. We stayed till evening before Sue sends us back to Sherburne.

Then, I took a rest to get myself ready for the Black Friday sales. It was so hard to just wait for time to pass. I self-declared for a movie night. So I watched tons of video on PPS and Youtube. When the clock strikes 2, I headed down and there we took off to the Minnepolis city with my Vietnamese friends.

We reached our first stop, JC Penny at 330am. After half an hour, the crowds started to come and door was opened. I only managed to grab a pair of jeans.

This is just 1/5 of the que in front of Wal-Mart.

Next stop was SuperTarget, an hour later. And then follow by Wal-Mart. After that, we headed down to the Mall of America. We had lunch there and continued shopping till 2pm. All in all, it was the longest shopping hours I ever had - 12 hours.

Once we reached St. Cloud, I was already super tired. I only have an hour or so to prepare myself before Lois and Dick Hokanson came to pick us to our next destination, Little Falls.

We reached Little Falls by evening and we had a delicious dinner prepared by Lois. In the 2 days, Jasmine and I helped the Hokanson's to decorate their house for the Christmas Season.

Phase 1 - Grouping the deco into related categories.

My set of cookies. My first Masterpiece in my whole life.

Results from a work of a whole afternoon.

We too baked cookies. On Sunday, we attended Grace Covenant Church. It was also there I met the birthday boy, a mixed Russian-American, little Mark, who previously helped me with my Child Psychology project. I gave him a CD from Malaysia and he loved it so much.

Mark, Me and Mariah.

Go, Malaysia!

We returned to St. Cloud by 3pm. After an hour of rest, I decided to head to the gym, since I have not done so for about 3 days. Also, played badminton with some friends from Malaysia and Thailand after dinner in my beloved school cafeteria, Garvey Commons.

Candle light dinner.

There goes my very first Thanksgiving holidays in U.S.

If you were to ask me what I remember from all these events, I would say:
1. Sue's sister's dog is called Dexter.
2. Sue's layered jello was the best.
3. People are crazier than we are at Black Friday sales. Wal-Mart has the longest que.
4. The Hokanson's own a 6-acre land. Their house made me feel very comfortable, not like those you've seen on American TV shows. Lovely.

P/S: I know this is one of the longest post I ever had since I came to the States, thanks for reading till the end!

Cheers!

Feeling Good

Feeling good today because my group had done a good job in a presentation for Child Psychology. A few more to go and there ends the semester. Of course, final examinations are in 3 weeks' time, beginning on Monday December 14 till 18, Friday. Gonna give a final push for it.

Recently, I have been weight conscious and hitting the gym everyday. I know it is not a really smart thing to do such compulsive exercise, but with all the training and drilling from the Boys' Brigade, I know can do it. I can really see some result from it. However, it is too minimal to announce, wait till I have better results.

Also, towards the end of the semester, I am picking up a new language for myself. I am learning French, in reading, writing, listening and speaking. I am grateful that a member from the Francophone is willing to tutor me for free. I realized the importance of being multilingual. I never really appreciate my known languages till I came to the States. People are so amazed by our ability to understand so many languages, in which we treat it like a norm back home.

Thanksgiving is coming, it is on this Thursday and Friday, and school have a 4-day break for us, including the weekends. Jasmine and I will be visiting Sue's (a former colleague of Ms. Jaime in SCSJ) home on Thursday and Lois' home for the weekends. On Thursday midnight, the crazy people, in other words - we, will be heading to St. Cloud area's mall for Black Friday sales as well as the Mall of America (known as the biggest mall in U.S. and may be the world).

Looking forward to everything that has been installed!

Cheers fellow readers!

Rest needed

"...."

What a busy week! Just had a test on Tuesday and subject registration for next semester was today.

I never thought that the registration will be such a hectic thing to do. Even though it only took me 5 minutes to click on the subjects I wanted to register online, but it took me 5 days to plan, see advisor, and to lay out a route for my semesters. Each day, I also check on the seats available. 3 of my classes actually got filled up before my registration was open (registration based on status, grad > honors > senior > junior > sophomore > junior), resulting the need to change the timing of my classes.

The most unlucky thing is that I can't get into one of my subjects, English 191. Even though I have done English 101 and 102 in Malaysia, they still want me to complete 191 as a requirement. Now, they need me to get a professor to override it for me, the best part is the professor is out of town till Friday. I pray that God will keep the seats open for me.

I need a rest. My brain is just too exhausted. When are the next holidays? Thanksgiving break! Starting from next Thursday till Sunday. Oh yea.

Yes, this is just another ranting post. I just wanna get through the rest of the November, peacefully.

Oh, there's something that I am looking forward to - my white mocha tomorrow. Sweeeet.

Peace out.

Vietnamese Cultural Night '09

The oriental decorations with the colorful lights caught my attention when I entered the ballroom. The ballroom is transformed into an ancient and yet beautiful situate. It was Vietnamese Cultural Night on the 14th of November, 2009.

The event began with a trio-singing performance. Two ladies and one gentleman performed a traditional Vietnamese song to welcome all the guests. The performers then presented other dances in their traditional Vietnamese costumes. I am so glad that I had this opportunity to see these costumes, which are very similar to the traditional Chinese costumes. Besides the performances, I also enjoyed the ancient folktales told by the emcees about Vietnam.

I helped out as a volunteer in this event. I helped to serve the food to the guests. The food was so delicious that the guests return for second – and some third – rounds! Nothing reminds me more of my home with this Asian food.

The second half of the night was continued by the fashion show, the highlight of the night. More traditional clothes were presented by the elegant models. It was indeed an eye opener for me. I can’t stop myself from snapping so many photographs by the stage. The last performance was presented by the SCSU break dance team. As the youth in the world today is moving towards flexibility and extreme body movements, the Vietnamese too have adopted this new culture. The break dance performance was breath taking and it received a loud applause for the audience at the end.

In summary, I am grateful that God has brought to me some Vietnamese friends in the U.S. I never had taught of it myself that I would make any Vietnamese friends in my life! This cultural night is a very good way for me to learn about my friends’ cultural background and also listen to them speaking and singing in native language. I am also glad that I have contributed a little towards the success of this night. I am sure I will continue to attend other cultural nights to wider expend my intercultural experience.

What I do is...

In response to my friend, Choon Hui's post on the chatter box, I decided to post about "what do I engage myself with when I'm free". It does trickle me when the question was posted. I did ask myself what I've done lately.

What I do is to read.

I find myself enjoy reading a lot recently, though I did so since primary school. The difference is that I read more of textbooks now. In comparison, I chewed more non-fictions, namely the Harry Potter sequels when I was between 13 to 17.

The experience is not the same. I find that there are many styles in textbook writings. Some authors prefer presenting their ideas in chronological order, presenting their points in ascending order. Whilst some of the authors would like to write in form of clusters/categorical. They group the similar ideas together, into specific clusters. I find the latter rather difficult to comprehend.

I think, it is because we are used to the chronological way of perceiving things. For example, most of the film/movies and TV series are plotted in chronological order. The stories are normally told by extending the events, then moving on to what happens next. Seldom can we see shows that are presented in a categorical way, except for the National Geographic, in which every similar events are grouped in the same episode/season.

In this way, our mind are trained to accept what happened in the past, know what is happening now and predict what will happen in the future, in a continuous way. I personally love to read and comprehend better in texts that are written in this way. When events skip and move between chapters, I will easily get confused. The next thing I will do is head to the bed. ZZzz.

An advice for those in school: It is important to read your textbooks. I regret not touching my textbooks throughout my secondary schools and college, unless told to do so. Make full use of your textbooks, especially when you paid to get those books. I personally believe that if a book is not read, then it has not been fulling utilized and you have indirectly humiliated the author(s).

Maybe it's because I have to pay big bucks for my books now.

Final note, to allow yourselves enjoy reading, you must first let it not be an obligation. =)

Cheers people!

I feel kinda happy now, haha!

Forget 2010..2012 is the new trend

In a couple of days, the world as we know it is going to end. Metaphorically of course since the super-cool director named Roland Emmerich is going to unleash his latest blockbuster on 12th November1 What do you expect from a movie that was made by the guy who did Universal Soldier, Stargate, Independence day, Godzilla, The patriot, The day after tomorrow and … 10.000 B.C? Well tones of state of

Overflow with nostalgia

I'm a bit different from others. When I was young, I don't do a lot of things that a normal kid will do, go outdoor, play some sports or something. I like watching MTVs.These are the MTV artists that had kept me accompanied when I was only 4 or 5 years of age. I can't believe that all these are on Youtube. The enlisted are my top 15. Enjoy!

Even though they are "girlish". But they inspired me to sing. These 2 are my mummy's favorite. I remember those time when I was a child, I was let my mum know when this songs are playing, she will always put down whatever she's doing and come to watch it with me.

I simply miss my childhood years.

Memories of a Brigade Boy

I am reminded of the golden times in BB, I missed them.

I thank 1stKL for all the years in forming Characters, developing Leadership and strengthening Brotherhood.

Enjoy =)

R-A-N-D-O-M

Just breath, relax and smile.

I realized I have not been writing random stuff. Sometimes, randomness keeps me away from "themed" routine and a fixed life.

I look forward to the cup of iced Mocha on every Tuesday and Thursday morning, it's my engine of motivation.

I stared at the jumbled pieces of notes on my desk bulletin, feels occupied, not bad.

I throw my face into the newly washed laundries, take a deep breath, feels like a toddler.

I browse through the thousands of photos in the hard drive, memories of the past flashes in my little mind.

I enjoy the running waters brushing my body during shower, like everything is shaded, forgiven.

I love the hair dryer's warm air blowing on my head, as though blowing it all away, nothing for the moment.

I just realized how much I can enjoy in my life. Thank you for reading, I know this is nothing that really tickles.

Enjoy life!

Legend of Basara Cartoon Anime Gallery

Legend of Basara Cartoon Anime Gallery
Legend of Basara was created by Yumi Tamura as a manga which ended in 1998. The manga was a hit that an anime counterpart was produced. Unfortunately, the anime didn't stir much interest in Japan; it ended in the 13th episode, which only covered five volumes of the manga. Many people who are interested in the art of anime will be turned off by this series because the animation is not the best. However, if you are looking for a great storyline with beautiful wonderful characters then this is the series for you.

Basara is the story of the child of destiny. It takes place in the future after a massive war or wars has turned Japan into a desert. This child will be one one to deliver Japan from the tyranny of the emperor and his 4 heirs. This child begins a journey away from the village after a tragedy and begins his/her destiny, meeting new followers along the way while battleing fears and a great love.

Sengoku Basara Anime Series

Sengoku Basara Anime Series
Sengoku Basara 2 is the sequel to Sengoku Basara (known in English as Devil Kings), released in Japan on July 27, 2006 for the PlayStation 2. A revision with additional features named Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes was released in November 29, 2007. The game is also on Nintendo's console, Wii. Sengoku Basara takes place during the Sengoku Period, or Warring States Period, during which Japan was split into many minor states battling over power and land.

This is a new anime in Japan which only started this 2009. Sengoku Basara also known as The Devil Kings originated from a video game for play station 2 . The video game was launch last July 2005. Now, Sengoku Basara is being animated into a series which fair to say, is promising and has lots of action.

Basara Manga Cartoon Series

Basara Manga Cartoon Series
Basara has since been published in Chinese, French, and as of 2003, English as well. Before Basara became available in English, the only translations available were fan-translations. That project is still ongoing, although I've become way too busy to contribute much. I think it's happening to Basara and PSME because these two aren't as popular as they were in Japan, or even other series that Viz has localized. It's too bad because it prevents new fans from appreciating these gems.

Basara Cartoon Anime Pictures
Basara is a shōjo manga written by Yumi Tamura. The manga, which consists of 27 tankōbon volumes, won the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo in 1992. It was adapted as an anime that follows only part of the manga story, cutting off after 13 episodes. In North America, the manga is published by Viz Media in English.

The story takes place in a future Japan, reduced to a barren desert by a catastrophe at the end of the 21st century. The main character is Sarasa, a girl whose twin brother, Tatara, is prophesied to be the "child of destiny" who will bring back the country's independence and stop the tyrannical rule of the Empire, namely the Red King. When Tatara is killed, Sarasa pretends to be him in order to keep the downtrodden from losing hope.
