Public Speaking

It sounds really familiar to prefects, emcees and other speakers who have to present themselves in front of crowds.

I have Public Speaking as one of my subjects this semester. I thought it will be an interesting subject to look into. So far, after 2 classes that is conducted by Dr. Steven, it was interesting as I've thought. There are many skills in Public Speaking, more than what I have used to think that it was all about standing in front of some people and talk.

In today's lesson, I have learnt about the 3 basic elements in PS - Humility, Image and Basic mannerism. The lecturer also gave us a chance to practice PS in the class (very much the same like what I did in LT Wong's Communications Award class). We were asked to talk on the Narnia/Harry Potter/Batman.

I've learnt the differencce between a prepared speech and an unprepared one. Many of us came out with "Ah.." "Erm.." and stuff. It was also fun to learn that we love to use the words like "basically", "etc. etc.", "and stuff'" when we do not know what's the next point to talk about.

The lecturer commented on me that I may want to put up a little more persuassive points. He also mentioned that I have a very good and "non-threathening" smile. My friend says I will never be a lawyer or politician. Haha.

Anyway, it is always fun to learn how to speak in public. A good speaker can always get others' trust and confidence.

Life's abstract

It's another new week. Nothing much special happened last week. The only thing worth to be mentioned is BB meeting. The number was not encouraging again. However, I tried my level best to make each BB meeting a memorable one for the Boys, be it games, drill, or band. Last Sat's games was fun. I "reuse" the games that I've played in both the NS and the college camp to be played by the Boys. I see they enjoy it! I really hope they enjoy coming to each BB meeting.

Scholarship, scholarship, scholarship...I have been running all over to look for scholarship in the college, but they seem ignoring me. I have a dream; I want to futher my studies in the States. I thank God that I have an officer, whom is also a lecturer in the Taylor's College, is now guiding me in my steps to realize my dream. Financial wise, I pray hard that it wouldn't be a barrier.

I've recently enrolled myself to the college's Students Council. The SC helps students in the college, especially the freshies, to adapt to the new environment, receive complaints as well as to organise college-wide events. By joining the SC, I hope I can learn more on events management and providing services to others. CF (Christians Fellowship) is the next society that I am heading into. I hope CF can help me in refreshing my Christian life in the college.

So far so good, life's great! Everyday is a new blank page for us to colour!

Boys on rides!
Yo. Sorry for the late updates, as I was preparing myself to move into this fresh semester. Good news first, I'm very happy to have scored quite good for my previous semester, a flat 4.00 GPA points. Thank God that all my hard work is not wasted. XD

Back to last Saturday, as our Band went perform at Genting Highlands Outdoor Themepark, we had a good time enjoying ourselves over all the exciting rides too! As per what Captain has said, we hope this function as can be the "energizing battery" that could energize all of us and bring us back to the excitement and aniticipation that BB has had.
Of course, I wish we can have more of these activities/outing in the future! Next to look forward to: Awards cum Band Camp (next Sat), Year-end Company Camp (Pahang) and Band Concert (1st quarter of 2008).
Excitements are there, let's enjoy ourselves more!
New semester, New challenges!!

Holiday Mode

There's another week ahead for my break. The two weeks have past really fast. Looking back, I've not really done anything that can be considered as holidays' activity. I am pretty much sure that the next coming week will be the same too.

Holidays have messed up my sleeping hours. When I was in hostel, I'm used to sleep at 2am. And now when I'm home, I have to force myself to go to bed at 12am. As a result, I am experiencing insomnia--can't sleep.

Holidays caused me to gain weight. When I was in hostel, I'm used to have brunch, normally skip dinner, and will chat over a cup of tea at supper time. And now when I'm home, I have all 3 meals and sometimes supper. As a result, I am getting fatter--not so fit.

However, Holidays have allowed me to care for my siblings and my parents more. I get my brothers home from school, give them revision as they were facing their exams. I send my mum to work. I bring my brothers for dinner. I help my dad with his work and quotations. I've more time with my mum and dad, chatting with them was the best time I ever had.

Holiday Mode, I can't differentiate whether I should love it or not.

KL World Marching Band Competition 08

What do you say? I think the standard was not as good as last year's. However, it was a good eye opener. I am amazed by the Bicycle Showband Crescendo, in which they actually ride on the bike and played the instruments at the same time. The idea is very interesting. The Ashwin Willemse Orient Band (South Africa) has improved, sound quality was much better compared to last year's. Tanjong Katong (Singapore) was very Chinese Oriented. Brovst Pigegarde (Denmark) was the smallest band but yet strong. VI was okay, but the suprises were not enough. Well done to Sultanah Asma (M'sia) for maintaining the standard, they have improved on their drill and formation. Wat Rajabopit (Thailand) was emerged as the Champion, Bravo! It's the 2nd year for Thailand to reign the title.

2 cents

Back from SLC. The camp was fun. It's nice to meet new friends and have got closer to coursemates & lecturers. The activities were normal and most of the time it is the coorperation between teammates that makes a champion. The 'Chipmunks' did! Congratz to the rest of the Chipmunks' members for the good achievement.

God gave us wisdom. Finally, we are coming with ideas and plannings for the Company after this long period of depression. Keep up the spirit. God, continue to bless us, sustain us and grant us strength to put our thoughts into reality. Inter-squad Games is back, squad Sure or B2 is working our way out to reign! Don't look down at us because of our size. We will prove you wrong!

Will be meeting my fellow squad members this Monday. Pray that it will be a good time to have a chat with them and get to know how are they doing. I am quilty because I have not passed down the leadership. The squad shrinks vigorously this year. I am determined now to do something to gather back the members. I pray that God will help me in achieving this goal.

I did not manage to watch the preliminaries for the KLWMBC 08 due to SLC. So, I am going for its Final tomorrow and I'm anticipating for the performances of the bands from foreign countries.

Till then, shall blog again..
